3M Floating Logo

The 3M Floating Logo was created for use on the 17th hole at the 3M Open each year. The 3M Open is a PGA Tour golf tournament held at TPC Twin Cities golf course in July. The 3M Open gets over 30,000 visitors each year. All of those visitors can see this floating in the lake, but more importantly for this particular installation is the Television Coverage. On the 17th Hole, the players shoot from the teebox across the water, directly over the 3M Floating Logo before reaching the green. Each day of the event, the TV cameras feature this floating installation with every ball hit on the 17th hole.

The 3M Floating Logo is 50’ wide by 25’ tall. In order to transport and install something of that size, it had to be designed and built in interlocking sections. Much like a gigantic jigsaw puzzle. All of the pieces brought to the golf course in a box truck, off loaded by our team and carried down to the shore of the lake. We have a team on shore that is prepping the pieces and a team in the water that is connecting the pieces together. Once all of the pieces are connected, we tow the entire installation across the lake to the final placement. There are underwater cables that stretch to anchors at points on the shore. This installation has been going out every year since July of 2020.
