3M Floating Cube

The 3M Floating Cube is installed each year on a lake in between the 14th and 18th holes for the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities golf course. The 3M Open is a PGA tour golf tournament held each year in July. We built this display in the summer of 2019 and have installed it each year since.

The entire 3M Floating Cube Display was fabricated at Jackpine Scenic. The display is framed out of aluminum, it is covered in dibond panels that were wrapped in vinyl by Brand Ink. The cube is assembled on shore in sections and then craned out to a floating base. The floating base can float up to 14,500 lbs. That is 10,000 lbs more than we need for the cube, but this one was over built on purpose. The cube is 16’ tall and acts like a gigantic sail in the lake. Each year the cube is subjected to high winds and summer storms and it has survived everything that nature has thrown its way.

To secure the Cube, we fabricated steel anchor baskets that are sunk just under the water near the shore. Each anchor basket gets 700 lbs of weight added. Underwater cables connect the baskets to the Cube Base.

The entire Cube and floating base were designed to breakdown and fit into one 24’ box truck.

Come see it each year at the 3M Open in Blaine, MN.
